VIP Heat Map doesn't have accounts and doesn't run a login. We do use Google Analytics to understand traffic (see below), but nothing here is used to identify you personally. The data that moves when you use this site comes from the third-party services below, each covered by its own privacy policy.
Mapbox renders the interactive map. Loading it means your browser requests map tiles directly from Mapbox's servers, which — like most map providers — involves some standard technical data (e.g. IP address, general location implied by the map view) reaching Mapbox under Mapbox's own privacy policy.
Supabase hosts the underlying sightings database. It's queried read-only to load the map data you see — there's no visitor account or login layer, so it never receives anything identifying you.
Google Analytics helps us see how many people visit and roughly how they use the site — pages viewed, general location, device type, that kind of thing. It sets cookies to do this and, like most analytics tools, shares data with Google under Google's privacy policy. We don't use it to identify individual visitors. You can opt out in your browser with Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.
Google AdSense may serve the display ads on this site. When active, Google and its ad partners can set cookies and use other identifiers to personalize ads and measure their performance, per how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom may be shown a Google consent prompt before any ad cookies are set. You can review or turn off ad personalization for your Google account at adssettings.google.com, and industry-wide at optout.aboutads.info.
The Contact page opens your own email client — a message you send goes straight to our inbox the normal way an email does. We use it to answer your question or act on a correction, and don't add it to any mailing list or share it with anyone else.
The map's content — names, dates, and venues — is compiled from public reporting (news coverage, press-agency photo captions, and similar public sources), not from anything a visitor submits. Every entry traces back to a documented source; see the About page for how that's sourced. If you believe an entry is inaccurate or shouldn't be here, the fastest fix is the Contact page.
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
If what this site collects or how it's used changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change accordingly.
